The clean beauty industry is booming – and rightly so. As more beauty consumers start to notice the benefits of organic, sustainable skincare, many of us are saying yes to these hearty alternatives. Aromonix is one such example, a Hong Kong-born brand that utilises the benefits of aromatherapy in its formulas. We speak to the founder Angela Kong on what clean beauty means to the modern skincare aficionado.

Could you tell us about yourself and how you got into the clean beauty industry?
My name is Angela and I am the founder of Aromonix. I’ve always been passionate about the benefits of Aromatherapy especially when my son began to develop a skin condition in his early teens and nothing on the market seems to work. Then, I was introduced to using essential oils and found that it really helped. I was determined to find less harmful alternatives to the chemical treatment commonly which was previously commonly available. So I trained and became certified as an IFPA aromatherapist. Then I started helping my friends and family by offering all-natural blends I formulated to help their skin allergies and minor aches and pain. It was my family and friends that suggested that I incorporate and start supplying my hand-blended products commercially. I started small and built a client base and ventured to local spas and beauty clinics and started the business from there.
What does beauty mean to you?
Generally speaking, I truly believe healthy is beautiful and comes from within you. That's why I find that looking inwards at your own physical and chemical health is so incredibly important – you can't have one without the other. I believe that 'beautiful' clear skin, shiny hair and healthy nails are all things we associate with beauty because they're indicative of health. Beauty from the inside out really does matter, and by looking after our bodies we can positively affect our appearance and wellbeing too. Of course, holistic beauty means care from every angle, and what goes on your skin has a significant impact on how your body works too.

How did you start Aromonix?
I start Aromonix after I was certified as an Aromatherapist and Skincare Formulator then I started helping my friends and family. I started blending products with them then offered this to local spas and beauty clinics.
Where do you find inspiration?
Inspiration comes from the fact that there are a lot of skincare products in the markets that contain certain toxic chemicals and are actually harmful to our health, so I would like to raise awareness when choosing any skincare product.
What are the most important elements of your brand?
As an Aromatherapist, I learned about natural essential oils, their healing properties, and how to blend them properly to attain the greatest benefits for our bodies and our spirits. Essential oils have extremely targeted and highly potent effects on skincare and wellness and have been used for centuries in natural therapy techniques. All our products are plant-based with no synthetic colour or fragrance and no animal testing. All our packaging is sustainably sourced and can be recycled as well.

What do you hope customers take away with your products?
Developing this skincare range has been my passion and it has taken years to formulate. Our skincare products are hand-blended just for you. Everything is natural and completely safe. My top recommendations would be:

How do you curate your collections?
Each ingredient is selected very carefully and we insist that they bring a valid therapeutic benefit to each formulation. Most of our ingredients are certified in our own right by the Soil Association; something that we are really excited about as we love everything they stand for!

What's next for Aromonix and what can we look forward to?
We’re expanding our range over the coming months, which we’re really excited about as creating new products with the help of our amazing customers who often give us feedback. I'd say that this, without a doubt, is the most interesting part of running an organic skincare company. We are currently working on plans to continue expanding our little skincare range so that more and more people are able to enjoy the beauty of non-toxic, organic natural skincare.
