Founder & CCO of Furtuna Skin, Agatha Relota Luczo, On the Future of Beauty Brands

INTERVIEW

Agatha Relota Luczo’s revolutionary skincare brand- Furtuna Skin is one to watch.

Having worked in fashion since the late 90s for global fashion houses such as Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, the Croatian-American model is all too familiar with the beauty and skincare industry. Furtuna Skin is the crystallisation of Luczo’s years of experience and her profound love for nature. As the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Furtuna Skin, Luczo finds herself engaged in all stages, from product development to the final sale. The brand solidifies its sustainable status from growing its in-house grown ingredients at organic farm La Furtuna Estate. Here, we sat down with Agatha Relota Luczo, model and business woman of Fortuna Skin as she share her story, the brand’s values and her mission.

1. How do you define beauty?

Beauty comes from the heart and shines from within. The better a person you are, the more it radiates from you and gives you a certain glow. Beauty is a combination of ease, elegance, and simplicity. I agree with Coco Chanel's quote, "Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself." The confidence that comes through when you're completely yourself makes you beautiful.

2. What was the inspiration behind your beauty brand Furtuna Skin?

Our bountiful land is our inspiration. It also drives the performance of our skincare and is why so many people see such a difference in their skin from the moment they apply our products. We source our ingredients from La Furtuna Estate, an 800+ acre organic farm in Sicily which is home to 12,000 olive trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old, as well as Italy's "survivalist" botanicals which we call Extremophyte Plants. These plants include 500 flora and 50 wild medicinal herbs used for centuries to heal and rejuvenate suffering or prematurely aging skin. They have overcome Sicily's extreme environmental conditions, becoming stronger as the years go by. Thanks to the process of natural adaptation, they boast supercharged levels of antioxidants and nutrients, which we nurture through meticulous regenerative farming practices and extract through a Soundbath Extraction innovation to protect their potency. The result is the absolute highest quality ingredients that power our high-performing, award-winning, 5-star-rated products.

3. How do you wish to impact the beauty/skincare industry with Furtuna Skin?

I want to impact the skincare industry by changing how we think about business and that success should begin and end with a dynamic and holistic approach to improving our planet and health for future generations. I want to demonstrate that regenerative farming practices and a regenerative approach to beauty that takes into account the entire ecosystem of the skin, not treating it simply as a surface area, is the way forward. It may sound lofty, but these days I believe that brands have the power and responsibility to be a solution for our impact.

4. Having worked as a model on set and behind the scenes as the Chief Creative Officer of Furtuna Skin, how do the two differ, or are they similar in some sort of way?

Meeting and working with so much creative talent, from designers to photographers and makeup artists, inspired and honed my creative eye. I bring everything I learned from my decades-long modeling career to Furtuna Skin, shaping our brand identity and standards, developing our packaging, and directing campaigns. Being a model teaches you to be flexible because you're often confronted with unexpected situations. It's helped me to become more responsive to changing ideas, responsibilities, and expectations that are par for the course when running a beauty startup.

5. Aside from running a beauty brand, you are also a model and mother of four. How do you balance your work life and your personal life?

I try my best to have a balanced life, but it's not always possible, and I try not to stress about it. I think to help find balance, it's important to remind yourself of your priorities, and for me, my family is my top priority. Knowing this makes decision-making easier. I also believe in building rituals and routines in my family and work life. One ritual I have with my family is expressing gratitude. In terms of health and beauty, I start my day by drinking a shot of extra virgin olive oil and have an easy-to-stick-to skincare routine for morning and night. I exercise 3 to 5 times a week and have impromptu dance parties with the kids most mornings. I couldn't do all these things without my incredibly supportive husband and dedicated Furtuna Skin team.

6. Are there any exciting launches from Furtuna Skin that we can look forward to?

We are constantly formulating and researching new products at Furtuna Skin. We just launched our Cleansing Oil Balm, which provides the power of a double cleanse in a single step without stripping the skin, ensuring you get skincare's most crucial step done right. It's one of our most anticipated product launches, and the reaction to it and consumer study results have exceeded even our highest expectations. There's another exciting launch happening in September. I can't wait to announce it when the time is right and share it with the world because I know people will love this product.
