9 Hollywood 'Nepo Babies' Starring in Anticipated Films in 2024

Nepo babies are taking over the social media-fuelled climate of the modern day. From influencing, to fashion, to television and cinema, the children of the rich and famous are making an impact, separated from the significance of their surname. The discussion surrounding Hollywood's nepo baby boom in film and TV is a precarious conversation, but it does not stop the star children stepping into Hollywood cinema. Many are now moving away from their famous parents and making a name for themselves in the cinematic space.

Nepo baby-filled film Madame Web received mixed reviews by critics and public alike with an Audience Score of 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, as cinema is seeing an uprising of nepo baby stars joining the Hollywood sky. The latest Marvel instalment features recognised nepo actors including Dakota Johnson – daughter of American actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, and stepdaughter to Antonio Banderas – as well as Emma Roberts – daughter of American actor Eric Roberts and famously known as the niece of Julia Roberts – and Zosia Mamet – daughter of actor Lindsay Crouse and filmmaker/playwright David Mamet. In the wake of Madame Web and its mixed reviews, we think it is only appropriate to alert readers of the upcoming movies set to hit the cinema starring some of Hollywood's favourite nepo babies.

1) Back to Black – Marisa Abela

Release date: 12 April 2024

This fast-approaching release of the Amy Winehouse biopic, Black to Black, has received some controversy surrounding the fragile topic of the legendary singer’s tragic death. The upcoming film chronicles the life of the British singer from adolescence through to her untimely passing. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the lead role stars Marisa Abela, a Brighton-born actress known for her roles in the television series Industry, as well as the political thriller show, COBRA. As the daughter of director Angelo Abula, and actress Caroline Gruber, Marisa Abula is no stranger to the life of film and television. Following her feature in the blockbuster movie, Barbie, she is continuing her acting journey, taking on the role as one of the biggest stars of the early 2000’s.

2) Inside Out 2 – Maya Hawke

Release date: 14 June 2024

The second instalment of family favourite feel-good Inside Out 2 sees the welcoming of a new character, Anxiety, played by Maya Hawke. Exploring the inner workings of the teenage brain, this fun-loving cartoon is anticipated to deliver a colourful illustration of the difficulties that mental health can bring in the developing brain. Maya Hawke takes the lead in this new instalment, set to be released in mid-June. Daughter of Hollywood superstars Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke has already made a name for herself amongst Gen-Zers, in both television and film, through successful releases including Stranger Things and Do Revenge.

3) Borderlands – Jamie Lee Curtis

Release date: 9 August 2024

This colourful sci-fi action film stars self-proclaimed ‘OG nepo baby’ Jamie Lee Curtis. Daughter of American actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, whose fame spanned an impressive six and five decades, Jamie Lee Curtis is by no means deflective of her Hollywood royalty status. Based on a video game of the same name, Eli Roth-directed film Borderlands is set for a summer release after initial discussion of production dating back to 2015. This misfit hero film sees a team of unexpected protagonists battling aliens and monsters on the abandoned fictional planet of Pandora in search of a missing girl who may hold significant power.

4 and 5) MaXXXine – Mia Goth & Lily Collins

Release date: 9 August 2024

As a final instalment of the X trilogy, our favourite horror nepo baby Mia Goth is returning to screens as Maxine. Continuing her journey searching for Hollywood stardom, the film follows Goth as the only remaining survivor of the previous X movies. Whilst Goth is not directly categorised to the traditional stereotype of the nepo baby class, her grandparents were both involved in the arts. Her grandfather, Lee Jaffe, was a Jewish-American producer, filmmaker and musician, and her grandmother was Brazilian actress Mia Gladys. Joining Goth is well-known nepo baby Lily Collins, daughter of Phil Collins – Grammy-winning lead singer of rock band Genesis. With a family saturated in the film and music industries, Lily has grown up surrounded by stardom.

6 and 7) Nosferatu - Bill Skarsgård & Lily Rose Depp

Release date: 25 December 2024

Another creepy horror set to hit the screens in the USA at the end of 2024, is Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 silent German Expressionist vampire film directed by F. W. Murnau. The newest version, directed by Robert Eggers stars Bill Skarsgård, member of the legendary Skarsgård family. With legendary actor parents and six other actor siblings, Bill Skarsgård has made his mark in Hollywood cinemas, thriving in the horror genre. Working alongside him in this 19th century vampire horror film is model and actor nepo baby Lily Rose Depp – daughter of Johnny Depp. The triple threat daughter of the eccentric film expert is pursuing her acting career in this new release, whilst juggling her killer influencer image and success as a fashion model.

8) Lola – Nicola Peltz

Release date: 9 February 2024

Although this movie was released in February of this year, a nod to nepo babies would not be complete without the special mention to one of Hollywood’s most recognised nepo icons amongst Gen Zers. Nicola Peltz, the daughter of Wendy's billionaire and the wife of David and Victoria Beckham's son Brooklyn, not only stars as the protagonist of the new movie, Lola, she is also co-director. Also featuring in this aesthetic American drama is her brother Will Peltz. Following Lola James as she tries to break her brother out of his toxic home, we watch as her life turns upside down. With beautiful cinematography and aesthetics, the film presents an aesthetic debut for Peltz in directing.

9) Blink Twice – Zoë Kravitz

Also playing their hand at actor/director juggle is successful Hollywood actor Zoë Kravitz with her debut directorial film, Blink Twice. Whilst Kravitz may not be featuring in the film herself, her star-studded fiancé Channing Tatum is set to star as one of the film's main characters. The suspense thriller is scheduled for a summer release via Amazon MGM Studios and follows the unusual unravelling of Frida’s, a cocktail waitress, trip to new friend – tech billionaire Tatum’s character, Slater King’s private island. As strange occurrences begin to unfold, Frida searches for the dangerous truth.
