Model Off-Duty: Charly Sturm

Charly Sturm wears her many roles with the ease of someone born to a life in motion. Model, tastemaker and brand director at her mother’s cult skincare empire, Dr. Barbara Sturm, she moves seamlessly between runways, boardrooms and airport lounges. Her passport is well-used — think Amalfi hideaways and Swiss city breaks — and her style, effortless yet precise. We chat with her about her beauty and wellness routine and favourite travel getaways.

How did you first get started in modelling?


Funnily enough, when I was a kid, I did some modelling for the German company Miele. But I got more into it in my teenage years.


What’s been your biggest pinch-me moment so far?


Walking the JW Anderson SS23 show in London for sure.

What’s a typical morning in your life like?


I wake up quite early and start my day by drinking a lot of water. Then I love my little ritual of making my coffee and drinking it while catching up with urgent messages and emails. Then I usually do a quick skincare routine and maybe do a Pilates class or strength training before starting my workday.


What’s your secret guilty pleasure?


I absolutely love a good glass of wine and am also easily tempted by a delicious dessert.

Skincare step you’ll never skip?


I never skip using my Dr. Barbara Sturm Cleanser. I always need to clean my face, especially after a long day or wearing makeup. It’s a skincare step I’d never skip.


Favourite fragrance?


Byredo Bal D’Afrique has been my go-to forever. Sometimes I’ll also combine it with Liis Rose Struck.

Red lip or nude gloss?


It really depends! I prefer to keep my makeup quite natural, fresh, and glow-y, so I wear a nude gloss every day, but I adore a red lip every once in a while. 


Favourite fashion brand of the moment?


I love TOTEME and anything YSL.


Go-to airport outfit?


I typically go for a pair of Splits59 leggings, a TOTEME tank top, a sweater from The Row or Khaite, The Row Margaux Bag and a pair of Asics or New Balances.

Sneakers or heels?


Heels. I am a sucker for heels and, contrary to popular opinion, will choose those over comfort anytime – unless I know I have a long walk ahead of me.


Dream designer collaboration?


Wow that is a tricky one, but maybe Khaite or The Row.

 

Most treasured item in your wardrobe?


One of my The Row bags.

Favourite hotel(s) you’ve ever stayed at?


Villa Treville in Positano is one of my favourite places to stay – the whole Amalfi coast is beautiful.

 

Where’s next on your bucket list?


I’d love to see Copenhagen as I have never been. I also want to go back to Japan and spend a few days exploring different areas.
