Darjeeling: King of Black Teas from The Land of Thunder
Tea WG has its own dedicated garden on the pristine Okayti estate. Here, they grow, process, and serve the finest fragrances and flavours of Darjeeling Tea. The region is high up in the foothills of the Himalayan mountain range in the northeast region of India. Darjeeling teas are from the Camellia Sinensis v. Sinensis plant which thrives in colder climates, lending a delicate complexity in flavour and giving it a refreshing infusion.
In spring, sunlight shines on the tea plants. Thus, in combination with the cold Himalayan air, this causes the dormant tea bushes to come to life and burst into their first spring harvest. It’s sought-after for its unique terroir, from the cold temperature to the distinctive soil and rainfall, yielding some of the most revered black teas in the world. Thus, the Darjeeling harvest account for only 20% of annual Darjeeling production, making it a rare, highly-prized find. Each tea leaf is carefully picked by hand, processed, and handcrafted using the most natural and artisan methods.
