With the highest concentration of luxury hotels in the world, the Maldives is truly the epitome of high-end travel. There’s over 1,200 islands hosting some of the world’s most luxurious and beautiful resorts in this archipelagic country, many boasting five-star credentials and each more Instagram-worthy than the last. But which of these hotels are worth the hype?

If you're looking for a luxury Maldives vacay that's off the charts, here are the crème de la crème of resorts to choose from.

Joali Maldives

Located a 45-minute seaplane ride away from Malé on the secluded island of Muravandhoo, Joali Maldives has made a splash since opening in 2018, earning several accolades for its architecture and art-focused concept. The brainchild of female Turkish entrepreneur and one of Turkey’s leading business figures Esin Güral Argat, its villas and residences are architectural marvels seamlessly blending modern design with its breathtaking natural surroundings. Outside the villas, guests can enjoy the resort’s art-immersive concept, where art is integrated throughout the island, creating a living gallery experience. Joali's restaurants are culinary destinations in their own right, featuring world-renowned chefs who create delectable dishes using the freshest local and international ingredients.

Milaidhoo Maldives

Measuring a mere 300 meters by 180 meters with only 50 spacious villas, Milaidhoo Maldives might be one of the smaller resorts on this list, but it certainly manages to fit in a whole lot of wow factor. The island is intimate, low-key and tranquil, perfect for honeymooners and couples seeking a romantic getaway. It is also surrounded by a superb house reef teeming with resident turtles, sharks and fish, and a quick 15-minute speed boat ride away from the renowned Hanifaru Bay aka Manta Wonderland, making it the ideal luxury stay for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. An alfresco meal on a traditional fishing boat at Milaidhoo’s Ba'theli restaurant, the world’s first Maldivian fine-dining restaurant, is a must-try.

Sirru Fen Fushi

Tucked away in the secluded Shaviyani Atoll, Sirru Fen Fushi offers the ultimate blend of barefoot luxury and refined indulgence. There’s something enchanting about the island from the moment you step onto the jetty, whether it’s the lush jungle ambience of this natural island, the eagle ray or nurse shark you spot in the ocean as you’re having dinner, or the friendly demeanour of the staff. The timeless Maldivian-style thatched villas all have elegant interiors, but it’s the outdoor area – that comes with your own private pool, sun loungers and direct access to the ocean – that really steals the show. There’s also an on-site 5-star dive center operated by Sub Oceanic Maldives, which provides a variety of snorkelling and diving excursions for guests at the resort’s pristine 1.5km long house reef, and The Coralarium, the world’s first semi-submerged tidal gallery.

Joali Being

In the Maldives’ extensive constellation of luxury resorts, Joali Being stands out for its unapologetic devotion to wellness. This is no ordinary resort spa with ocean views tacked on to make you feel vaguely virtuous after a lazy morning at the buffet. It’s an entire island dedicated to recalibrating mind, body and soul. Conceived by visionary Esin Güral Argat as the Maldives’ first dedicated wellness island, Joali Being elevates self-care to an art form. Here, a cutting-edge Watsu pool cradles you like a rebirth, cryotherapy chambers shock cells into renewal, and the Turkish hammam delivers ancient purification rituals. Every element, from nutrient-rich cuisine to sound healing sessions, orchestrates profound transformation. Just 20 minutes from its art-focused sister property JOALI, this sanctuary proves true luxury isn’t indulgence — it’s intentional evolution.
