1) Les Fermes de Marie – Megève, France
Megève is my all-time happy place and holds a very special place in my heart. I celebrated my 40th birthday with a long weekend at this truly charming and magical hotel which showcases Alpine class at its very finest; from the quality furnishings and relaxed ambience to the outstanding cuisine and guest service. It’s a 5-star haven of tranquillity!
The Luxury Editor Tip: For romantic luxury opt for the Rochebrune Suite – located in the hotel’s stone tower.
2) The Balmoral Hotel – Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
The iconic Scottish hotel is a favourite of mine for many reasons; it’s located in the city I call home, and the attention to detail is impeccable and highly evident at every single touchpoint. I also love that each guest – whether they are a hotel resident or simply enjoying the bar or restaurant – is made to feel extra special by the attentive and ‘nothing is a problem’ team.
The Luxury Editor Tip: Be sure to experience Afternoon Tea in Palm Court – the tea pouring is extremely impressive and the music from the harpist is angelic.
3) Relais Borgo Santo Pietro – Tuscany, Italy
I’ve not yet visited this one yet (it’s on my travel to-do list!) but I’m truly obsessed with this hotel.
I think it really encapsulates the very meaning of the word elegance, especially the rooms and suites located within the original 13th-century villa.
The Luxury Editor Tip: Explore the wine cellar which is home to an extensive collection of prestigious Italian wine labels.
4) The Stafford – London, UK
This hidden gem of a hotel is steeped in history (one wing used to be the stables for the Queen’s horses!) and is one of London’s finest for quintessential British luxury. We love that so many of the team have worked at the hotel for many years – the camaraderie and dedication to their guests really shine through, the food is outstanding, the bars are cool... there are so many things we love!
The Luxury Editor Tip: Ask to see the old bunker museum in the hotel’s wine cellar – it’s fascinating!
5) Torel AvantGarde – Porto, Portugal
It’s clear to see why this boutique hotel is award-winning – the unique design and focus on art throughout the hotel is so uplifting and inspiring, it really creates a common bond between guests and the hotel team. The relaxed vibe really compliments the modern luxury experience.
The Luxury Editor Tip: Check-in to the Frida Kahlo room, one of the most famous spots in the hotel, fitted with an incredible twin bathtub with views out to the city – you won't be disappointed!
