GUANGZHOU

After years away from China, a two-night stay at Grand Hyatt Guangzhou was the perfect reintroduction to the city's effortless blend of old and new.

We arrived at the hotel and were immediately struck by the pleasant entrance, with a water feature in the middle that set a calm, welcoming tone. Check-in was relatively smooth, though only one desk was open when we arrived — a minor hiccup that was quickly forgotten once we were handed our key cards.

The room itself was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed after a few hours in the car. But the real star was the view. We looked out over the park, a lush expanse of green interspersed with buildings. It was the kind of view that made you want to linger by the window with a cup of tea, watching the city slowly wake up.

Breakfast: A Feast Worth Waking Up For

If there's one thing that consistently earns praise at Grand Hyatt Guangzhou, it's the breakfast — and our experience was no exception. The spread was fabulous, with an almost overwhelming variety of options.

Freshly baked pastries were a highlight, and the egg tarts were delicious — flaky, not too sweet, and impossible to stop at just one. There was a dim sum station offering fresh dim sum and noodles, congee, and so much more. We found ourselves spending hours here, sampling dish after dish, sipping coffee and tea, and simply admiring the view of Guangzhou spread out before us. There's even a view of the Canton Tower from the dining area, a glittering landmark that adds a touch of drama to an already impressive meal.

The Facilities

After eating our weight in dim sum and congee at the breakfast buffet, we dragged ourselves to the gym, and we're glad we did. It was a bright, well-equipped space — with everything we needed for a proper workout, with the added bonus of city views to keep us motivated.

The swimming pool was another highlight. While we do prefer an outdoor pool, the space has been designed in a way so that the indoor pool felt calm and inviting. One thing to note: they require you to wear a swimming cap in the lap pool, which is standard practice in China but worth knowing before you pack.

After our swim, we made use of the hot tub and cold plunge pool. The contrast between the two was invigorating — a proper recovery session that left us feeling refreshed and ready for the evening.

Final Thoughts

Grand Hyatt Guangzhou may not be the newest hotel in the city, but its combination of a central location, genuinely excellent breakfast, and thoughtfully designed wellness facilities makes it a compelling choice for both business and leisure travellers. The park view from our room was a quiet luxury, and the hours we spent at breakfast became a highlight of the stay rather than just a meal.

For anyone returning to Guangzhou after time away, this hotel offers a comfortable, welcoming base from which to discover the city.
