Head to Maka Tiki Lounge at The Upper House For Island Vibes & Fruity Cocktails

We may be worlds away from any Polynesian island escapes right now, but Honi Honi brings the next best alternative—and it doesn’t require a flight. Asia’s first tiki joint which has been around for eight years in its Central location welcoming cocktail lovers from allover. From now until 31 May 2021, Honi Honi’s Maka Tiki Lounge is taking its operations to The Upper House for a pop-up joint venture to serve both hotel guests and locals in the city looking for their tiki fix.

Located in the upscale hotel The Upper House, Maka Tiki Lounge has taken the al-fresco garden space and turned it into a chic tiki setting. Guests can also sit indoors where the bar is.

The day-to-night concept thought up by founder Max Traverse welcomes gourmands and happy hour seekers into its secluded setting for a night to remember. A more casual spot compared to its surrounding venues, the new pop-up bar features an extensive drinks and bar bites menu to entice its passer-bys.

We tried three cocktails to spice up the afternoon. The Dead Shaman (centre) comprised Ming River Baijiiu, homemade Falernum liqueur, guava nectar, spiked with Sichuan pepper syrup—served in an intimidating skull-themed cup. Meanwhile, the delicate champagne-based Honi Honi Kiss and Aperol Spritz are a more elegant date-night sipper for those out for romance. Guests can also try the range of non-alcoholic drinks which include mocktails.

The bar bites make a scrumptious drinking accompaniment. We opted for the sweet potato and beets crisps bowl served with guacamole for a crunchy sharing plate.

The refreshing poké miso cones could have been a bit colder but the innovative presentation was on point. Meanwhile, the edamame rice paper rolls made a good sharing snack for groups.

Exciting upcoming events will include promotions like Naugh’tiki Tuesdays, Wine Not Wednesdays, the exclusive Cigar and Rum Tastings, Tiki Cocktail Clubs, a cocktail making workshop and a guest bartending shifts from leading mixologists. The pop-up will be at The Upper House until 31st May 2021.
