Think of the richness of chocolate, the softness of a whipped latte, and the effortless elegance of a monochrome moment — that’s what Mocha Mousse, Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025, brings to makeup. This velvety, warm-yet-modern brown is the perfect shade to create a soft, blurred, and wearable makeup look that feels both luxurious and effortless.

As a professional makeup artist with over 11 years of experience, I love it when a colour naturally lends itself to beauty —a nd Mocha Mousse does just that. Soft, blurred, and seamless, it’s a shade that works on all skin tones and can be worn subtly or built up for drama. Today, I’m breaking down exactly how to bring this trend to life at home, with products you may already own and expert tips to perfect that soft-focus Mocha Mousse effect. And for a full visual breakdown, watch my YouTube tutorial here — where I guide you step-by-step through the look.

Step 1: The Soft Cloud Skin Base

Mocha Mousse deserves a skin finish that mirrors its softness — think baby skin, not glass skin. Have you ever noticed that a baby’s skin isn’t "glowy" but soft, plush, and cloud-like? That’s the inspiration here.

The Technique:

  • Start with hydrating skincare to prep the skin — think plump, deeply hydrating, but no heavy shine.

  • Apply a blurring primer to create a soft-focus effect.

  • Use a satin-finish foundation, giving a natural, baby-soft complexion without looking flat.

  • Pat, don’t swipe when blending in concealer to maintain coverage and keep that mousse-like texture intact.

Step 2: The Sugary Soft Mocha Eye Gaze

This eye look is all about layering textures — starting with buffing a soft matte mocha shadow base, then adding depth with a chocolate liner, and finishing with a pop of light-reflecting shimmer in the centre.

The Technique:

  • Buff and blend a matte mocha shadow all over the lid, blurring the edges softly for that seamless effect.

  • Apply chocolate brown eyeliner to the lash line, smudging it slightly for a diffused definition.

  • Tap a finely milled shimmer icy shadow onto the centre of the lid for a subtle, sugary glow.

Step 3: The Perfectly Plump Mocha Lips

To balance the soft-focus skin and dreamy eyes, we’re making Mocha Mousse the star of the lips.

The Technique:

  • Line lips with a soft brown lipliner to gently sculpt and define, in the centre ever so slightly rolling over the edges for a fuller lip.

  • Apply a lighter mocha-toned lipstick, then blur the edges with your fingertip for a soft, lived-in effect.

  • Finish with a juicy gloss for the ultimate plump, mousse-like finish.

Step 4: Chocolate Bronze & Touch of Sweetness

To keep this look monochrome and seamless, we’re using bronzer as blush, but with a tiny pop of cool pink for balance.

The Technique:

  • Sweep a chocolate bronzer across the cheeks, temples, and jawline for a warm, sculpted effect.

  • Add just a touch of icy pink blush on the apples of the cheeks for a hint of contrast.

The Icing on the Mousse Cake: Blurring Powder

To complete the look, set everything in place with a soft, blurring powder—this locks in the makeup for longevity and provides an IRL filter softness effect to the skin!

The Technique:

  • Lightly dust a finely milled setting powder over the T-zone, focusing on areas prone to excess shine.

  • Avoid over-mattifying—this look is about softness, not flatness.

Final Thoughts: The Mocha Mousse Mood

Mocha Mousse is the perfect balance of warmth, softness, and luxury — and this look is all about embracing that mood.

Whether you prefer a barely-there wash of mocha or a full monochrome moment, this colour is versatile, wearable, and timeless.
