Meet Patrick Stewart's Two Children, Daniel and Sophie Stewart
Patrick Stewart is survived by two children from his first marriage: actor Daniel Stewart, 59, and Sophie Alexandra Stewart, 54.
Daniel played his father's on-screen son in Star Trek: The Next Generation's celebrated episode "The Inner Light".
Stewart said in 2023 that he had put work before family, but that his children seemed to have forgiven him.
As tributes pour in for Sir Patrick Stewart, who died on October 28 at the age of 86, attention has turned to the two children he leaves behind. Stewart is survived by his wife, Sunny Ozell, and by son Daniel and daughter Sophie Alexandra from his first marriage, to choreographer Sheila Falconer, ABC News reported.
In the years before his death, the actor spoke candidly about his regrets as a father. "My relationship with them is practically non-existent," he told the Irish Independent in 2023, according to People.
"I never thought this would happen, but both my children are in their 50s — they're not children anymore, they're adults," he said.
Here is what we know about Daniel and Sophie Stewart.

What is Their Background?
Stewart married Sheila Falconer, a dancer and choreographer, in 1966. Daniel was born on October 20, 1967, and Sophie in 1972, per Entertainment Now. They grew up in a theatrical household in England. Daniel once told the Grit podcast that his "parents' dinner parties, now, are a who's who of the British theater aristocracy," Yahoo Entertainment reported.
Stewart was often absent as his career took off. "I would see my kids on Sundays if I was lucky. It was hard on my kids," he told the New York Daily News in 2015, according to HollywoodLife. Stewart and Falconer separated in 1990, while he was filming Star Trek: The Next Generation in Los Angeles. Daniel was 23 at the time and Sophie 18, /Film noted.

What Does Daniel Stewart Do for Work?
Like both his parents, Daniel is a performer. He made his TV debut in the 1986 miniseries Shaka Zulu and has credits including Space: Above and Beyond and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, according to IMDb. He has also worked on stage on and off Broadway and in London's West End.
He is best known to Star Trek fans for playing Batai, the son of his father's character, in the 1992 episode "The Inner Light", widely considered one of the best in the series.
Stewart cited it as his favourite episode, partly because of the casting. "I had a son in that episode who was played by my son, Daniel Stewart," he explained during an online Q&A, BGR reported.
Father and son also worked together on the 1993 TV thriller Death Train and the 2015 Starz comedy Blunt Talk, where Daniel played the eldest son of Stewart's news anchor character.

What Has Daniel Said about His Father?
He has described an unconventional childhood. "This industry and the fact that we're both in it brings up all kinds of bizarre circumstances," he told USA Today. "My upbringing wasn't a typical one in that my mum and dad came home at 5 and dinner was on the table at 6."
Having worked on both sides of the Atlantic, he told Grit he had "spent half my life in the States" and "sort of adopted both countries' attitudes toward acting." He has since moved back to England.
Who is Sophie Stewart?
Sophie Alexandra Stewart has kept a far lower profile than her brother. She has occasionally joined her father on red carpets, including the 44th Drama Desk Awards in New York and London premieres in the early 2000s, according to People.
Stewart recalled that both his children encouraged and "teased" him about his first Star Trek audition. Once he got the part, he said, he believed they were "quite proud that Dad was captain Jean-Luc Picard."
Are Daniel and Sophie Stewart Married with Children?
Daniel has been married to actress Mary Stillwaggon Stewart since July 1999. They have a son and a daughter. Sophie also has two children, a son and a daughter, which gave Stewart four grandchildren, per Yahoo Entertainment.
What Did Patrick Stewart Say About His Relationship with His Children?
He was strikingly honest. "I always put my acting work first, before my family," he told the Irish Independent. "I could've done better as a parent, when my kids were little." He said he was trying to make up for it. "I'm trying to correct that now whenever possible with my grandchildren. And my own children seem to have forgiven me." He had fond memories, too. "Cherish every moment when your children are young," he told People in 2022. When Sophie was born, he said, he did much of the childcare while Falconer performed in musicals. "I took over the job of being mom and dad, and I loved it. It was marvelous."
News of his death came in a family statement issued through his spokesperson, which said he had been surrounded by family and friends, live music and laughter in his final days.
