What to Know About Halle Berry's Fiancé, Van Hunt
Key Takeaways
Van Hunt, 56, is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer from Dayton, Ohio.
He and Halle Berry have been together since 2020. She confirmed their engagement on The Tonight Show on February 6, 2026.
Hunt has a teenage son, Drake, who is also a musician.
Halle Berry has suffered a major setback in her custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, and her fiancé, Van Hunt, was beside her as the ruling came down. On Thursday, October 29, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelley Kaufman awarded Martinez primary physical custody of their 13-year-old son, Maceo, and temporarily denied Berry's request to restore their 50/50 arrangement and overnight visits, USA Today reported.
The judge did not side with Martinez on everything. She dissolved a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Berry and refused to make it permanent. Berry also keeps joint legal custody, meaning she still has a say in major decisions about Maceo's life.
Martinez had accused Berry of physically abusing Maceo during a September confrontation at her home. Berry has strongly denied the claims, which have not been proven. “I have never physically, emotionally, or otherwise abused Maceo. I am a victim of domestic violence, and I help victims of domestic violence," she said, per court documents obtained by People. “I am not a perpetrator of violence. I would never hurt our child.”
