We Enjoyed A Foodie Experience at Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen | Review

SHENZHEN


Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen has quietly become one of Futian's most reliable food destinations, and we spent a weekend there testing that reputation meal by meal. Checking in on a Saturday evening and checking out Monday afternoon, we moved through the hotel's restaurant line-up, trying their Cantonese, Japanese, and all-day international cuisines. Here's what you need to know.



Location


The hotel sits directly across from the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre in Futian, the city's commercial core, a short walk from the Exhibition Center metro stop and Futian High-Speed Railway Station. It's close enough to the Civic Center and the municipal government district to make it a natural base for business travellers, but the surrounding CBD energy — glass towers, wide boulevards, a skyline that changes texture at night — also makes it a genuinely interesting weekend base rather than just a convenient one.



Accommodation


Rooms lean into a contemporary, residential feel that suits Futian's futuristic skyline. The signature Four Seasons Room design splits living and sleeping areas with a traditional Chinese screen. The 29th-floor Executive Lounge bookended our stay well — check-in, breakfast, and afternoon tea all ran through it smoothly, with evening happy hours as an added perk.




Facilities


Beyond the restaurants, the seventh floor is where the hotel's wellness side lives: a 19-metre indoor heated pool held at a constant 28°C, and an adjoining 15-metre outdoor pool alongside an outdoor jetted tub that can be warmed up to 38°C. There is also a spa featuring a number of massages, facial treatments, body wraps, wellness services, and a well-equipped gym.


Dining



Zhuo Yue Xuan (卓粤轩)


Our first proper meal of the stay was lunch at Zhuo Yue Xuan, the hotel's contemporary Cantonese restaurant, done in warm gilded tones with dark timber screens breaking the room into a more intimate scale than a typical hotel Chinese restaurant. The standout of the meal was the stuffed pigeon leg, alongside a barbecue pork puff that struck the right balance between flaky pastry and a properly sticky, caramelised filling. We also loved the double-boiled chicken soup.



Matsuyi (松逸)


Dinner the same evening was at Matsuyi, and we went all in on an uni-centric tasting menu that turned out to be the highlight of the whole stay. It opened with a sea urchin and sweet shrimp roe jelly, before moving into a sashimi platter that let each cut speak for itself. From there, a teppanyaki tiger prawn course arrived with shiso threaded through it, giving the dish a sharp, herbal lift against the prawn's natural sweetness, and the menu closed on a sea urchin tempura that managed to keep the uni's texture intact under a light, shattering batter.



FOO


Breakfast was at FOO, the hotel's bright, all-day restaurant on the sixth floor. The spread blended international staples with Asian breakfast options in a way that felt genuinely balanced.



Yi Lounge


Yi Lounge is the hotel's dedicated bar, sharing the sixth floor with Matsuyi and FOO but running on its own rhythm entirely. By day it's set up for a slower, more sophisticated afternoon tea on a leaf-shaded terrace; by night it shifts into a proper cocktail bar, with a handcrafted drinks list and a thoughtfully curated wine and spirits selection to match.




There is also a Beer Garden, which launched last month, for those who enjoy craft beers and snacks in a lively outdoor setting – weather permitting.



Overview


Taken together, the weekend made a strong case for treating Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen as a dining destination in its own right. Zhuo Yue Xuan delivered the most technically impressive single dishes of the stay — the stuffed pigeon leg and double-boiled chicken soup both stood out for restraint as much as flavour — while Matsuyi's uni-centric tasting menu was, without question, the culinary high point of the trip.
