Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS Returns to Hong Kong This August at WestK

Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS — one of the most successful and enduring musicals in theatrical history — is returning to Hong Kong this summer, with performances opening 6 August 2026 at the Grand Theatre, Xiqu Centre, in the West Kowloon Cultural District. The production is presented by Season Entertainment, GWB Entertainment, and SMG Live, by arrangement with LW Entertainment, and marks the show's first Hong Kong appearance since 2018.



Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, the musical first opened in 1981 at London's New London Theatre before transferring to Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre the following year. The original creative team — design by John Napier, choreography by Gillian Lynne, and direction by Trevor Nunn — helped shape a production that has since become one of the defining titles of both the West End and Broadway.




What the Show Covers


CATS is built around the "Jellicle Ball," an annual gathering at which a tribe of cats vies for the chance to be reborn into a new life, and is staged with an oversized, immersive set alongside inventive choreography and elaborate feline costume design. The production runs for approximately two hours and forty minutes, including a twenty-minute interval, and includes the score's best-known number, "Memory."


Since its world premiere, CATS has been staged in more than 30 countries, translated into 15 languages, and seen by upwards of 73 million people worldwide — a scale that has kept it in continuous rotation across major theatre markets for over four decades. Hong Kong's own appetite for the production has proven consistent: its last local run became a genuine "must-see" event, and organisers are positioning this return as an opportunity for a new generation of theatregoers to experience it for the first time.




The Details


Performances run Tuesday through Sunday, with evening shows at 7:30pm Tuesday to Friday, and both a 2:30pm matinee and a 7:30pm evening performance on Saturdays and Sundays. The run was originally scheduled to close on 16 August, but additional performances have since been added, extending the season through to 6 September 2026. The show carries an age restriction, with children under five not admitted, and includes laser effects, strobe lighting, and pyrotechnics.


Ticket pricing is split between non-peak performances (Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday evening) and peak performances (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday matinee), with prices for the latter running slightly higher across all seating categories. Non-peak seating starts at HKD 388 for Category C, rising to HKD 1,188 for Jellicle Orchestra Seats, while peak pricing runs from HKD 488 up to HKD 1,288 for the same tiers. Family packages of four tickets are available exclusively during off-peak periods and general public sales, priced at HKD 3,588 for VIP Stalls or HKD 2,888 for Category A.
