Pottinger Street’s 25-year-old Paul Gerrard Hair Salon is a knowledgeable stop to get this hair treatment done professionally, amongst many other head-to-toe services. We visited the specialist salon to try the Balayage hype, followed by an intensive Japanese conditioning treatment.

Balayage and Conditioning
I’ve been wanting to get balayage for a long while now—I’ve only done highlights before, and this usually frustrated me because of the roots growing out and having to maintain it constantly. Balayage was a suitable ideal for this and I wanted to try something less chrome and more ash-toned. My stylist was Jodie, a lovely lady who corrected my hair tone exactly how I wanted it to be, using subtle, blendable streaks. It took about two hours to get the highlights in, followed by a wash, where I had my Japanese conditioning treatment. I’ve also never done this before so it was exciting to see the results. The conditioning consisted of a three-step wash and moisturise remedy followed by a take-home bottle to use twice a week. I asked for bouncy curls for my blowdry and was really delighted with the outcome—my hair looked way healthier and smoother, just like the treatment indicated. Throughout my treatments, I was greeted with numerous supplies of fresh coffee and tea (with a side of biscuits) which was very hospitable.

Warm Hospitality & Perfect Hairdo
My experience at Paul Gerrard Hair Salon was as accommodating as I’d hoped it would be. The staff was super friendly and helpful and my treatment was relaxing and left my hair smooth for days. I used the Japanese conditioning treatment at home and it kept my locks tame and lush. The highlight (pun intended) of my visit was the balayage—it looked really natural and has saved me from constantly needing to colour correct and update growing roots. I’d definitely recommend coming here for all your mane needs—perhaps a nail service during your hair treatment for the busy city dwellers.
