Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Makes Its Hong Kong Debut at the Cultural Centre
HONG KONG
Willy Wonka’s fantastical chocolate factory has arrived in Hong Kong, as the internationally acclaimed musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory officially opens at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre this November.

Step into a world of pure imagination. The beloved story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has made its Hong Kong theatrical debut, bringing Roald Dahl’s much-loved tale of golden tickets, chocolate rivers and eccentric confectioner Willy Wonka to the stage.
Based on Dahl’s globally celebrated 1964 novel, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket, whose life takes an extraordinary turn after discovering one of five coveted golden tickets hidden inside a chocolate bar. Alongside four other lucky winners, Charlie is invited to explore the mysterious factory of the enigmatic Willy Wonka, where fantastical inventions, mischievous Oompa-Loompas and unexpected surprises await.

The production brings the fictional factory to life through elaborate stage designs, eye-catching visual effects, larger-than-life characters and magical illusions. Audiences can also look forward to an energetic musical score, featuring familiar songs including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I've Got a Golden Ticket, alongside original compositions by Grammy and Tony Award-winning songwriting duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Leading the Hong Kong cast are Daniel Plimpton as Willy Wonka and young performer Oliver Wong as Charlie Bucket, supported by an ensemble of experienced musical theatre performers. The production is performed in English, with Traditional Chinese surtitles, making it accessible to a wider local audience.
Running from 4 November to 6 December 2026, the limited engagement takes place at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. With its combination of theatrical spectacle, familiar storytelling and musical numbers, the production offers an entertaining outing for families and fans of Dahl’s enduring classic.
