HONG KONG

Glow Spa & Salon recently relocated its premises to a newly renovated space on Wyndham Street—now spanning over an expansive 4,400 square feet of hair and beauty services of all requests. Owned and operated by Sioban Guilfoyle, this premium hub is fully-equipped with experienced therapists and hairstylists and decked in lapis lazuli blue for a contemporary twist. We visited the Central space for a facial, hair wash and blowdry.

Location

The boutique beauty salon is in the heart of Hong Kong’s Central district, easily accessible from the MTR to the 8th Floor of Silver Fortune Plaza on 1 Wellington Street (at the entrance of Wyndham Street). It feels like a completely different world upon entering—a much more peaceful, spacious spot to get your pampering treatments done in privacy away from the sounds of moving cars and bustling people. Glow Spa & Salon revamped its whole interiors, from the luscious walls to the plush soft sofas.

Treatments & Facilities

Thanks to the massive space now available to the spa, the list of treatments available have also increased—meaning you can cover all your pampering needs under one roof. The salon hosts plenty of haircare booths, six spa treatment rooms, a nail lounge, a brightly-lit makeup counter and a brow bar. There is now also a VIP room for longer duration treatments, or for those clients wishing for more privacy, and for the men, dedicated barber’s chairs for professional beard grooming.

Facial & Blowdry

For my experience, I tried the facial and blowdry at Glow Spa & Salon to unwind and indulge in self-care for my skin and hair. During the facial, my therapist used a combination of SKEYNDOR skincare products for my face and Aromatherapy oil for my neck and chest massage. The facial included an initial consultation, where my skin was described as “combination” before being recommended the correct products and treatment catered for my skin. This included steaming, blackhead removal, several cleansing washes, a hydrating mask and final moisturising to ensure my skin was rebooted and rejuvenated. I could immediately see that all my blackheads had disappeared (especially from my nose) and that it left a natural “glow” to my pores and overall complexion.

I then moved on to the shampoo and blowdry—my stylist was a very friendly, helpful professional who told me more about the backstory of Glow Spa & Salon and his passion for hair care and styling—he explained that each hair specialist is an expert at a particular treatment (e.g. hair extensions, Brazillian blowout) and that they work together as a team to learn from one another. The result of my wash and blowdry were beautiful, natural locks and I felt pampered, ready for a post-work evening out.

Overall

The modern décor at Glow Spa & Salon was a lovely change from some of the dull spas you may find around Hong Kong—its newly renovated facilities offer an infinite amount of pampering opportunities from head-to-toe, all within easy reach from the MTR, or wherever you work or live in Hong Kong. I met a lot of friendly staff who were happy to accommodate my needs or answer any questions I had regarding the treatments. An additional perk—there’s a bar of delicious snacks, including banana bread, in the lounge, post-treatment.
