I Tried the IG-Famous HydraFacial at Skin Retreat Hong Kong: A First-Session Review
HONG KONG
HydraFacial has been a fixture of Hong Kong's beauty feeds for years, so I booked a session at Skin Retreat's Causeway Bay studio to find out whether the hype holds up, what actually happens during the hour, and what a realistic six-month skin plan looks like afterwards.

The Treatment, Step by Step
The salon lists the HydraFacial at 65 minutes. Here is how the hour unfolds:
Cleanse. The skin is cleansed with Activ-4 to remove makeup, oil and surface dirt before anything else goes on.
Glysal peel. A Glysal Prep serum, which contains glycolic and salicylic acids, gently exfoliates and loosens impurities.
Extraction. Using Beta-HD, the handheld device uses suction to lift out the loosened debris. Across the HydraFacial category, this step is generally described as painless, unlike manual extractions.
Hydration. An Antiox+ serum with antioxidants and peptides is infused to rehydrate the freshly exfoliated skin. A booster can be added for a specific concern: Dermabuilder Booster for fine lines, Britenol for dark spots, or lip and eye perks.
LED light therapy. Red or blue LED light is typically used to calm skin; red is associated with reducing redness and supporting collagen, blue with targeting acne-causing bacteria.
Mask. A soothing mask finishes the skin-care stage.
Shoulder and neck massage. The session closes with a massage, a nice way to wind down.

How It Felt
Very comfortable, and genuinely relaxing. The hour passes easily, helped by the mask and the shoulder and neck massage at the end.
That fits with how Skin Retreat describes the treatment: non-invasive, with no downtime. One of its own clients also calls it pain-free compared with traditional extractions.

What Changed After One Session
After one session, my pores looked smaller, my skin felt cleaner, and the whole face felt refreshed. For a single hour, that's a noticeable reset.
As a benchmark, providers across the category say the glow and hydration from a single HydraFacial typically last around five to seven days, with the benefits building when sessions are repeated. Skin Retreat itself says visible improvement, such as smoother, brighter skin, is expected after the first treatment. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee, since results vary by skin type and starting point.

Why Skin Retreat
Skin Retreat is a lifestyle beauty space on the 19th floor of Soundwill Plaza in Causeway Bay, built around the idea of "finding happiness in beauty." It offers more than 40 facial and body treatments, tailored to individual skin concerns, and the salon says it was named one of HydraFacial's APAC Top 50 Providers for 2026. Its signature is the Syndeo HydraFacial, which uses the brand's patented vortex-fusion technology to cleanse, peel, hydrate and protect in a single visit.

Who It's For, and Who Should Skip It
Skin Retreat says the treatment can be customised for most skin types, but it isn't suitable for anyone with active rashes, sunburn or rosacea. Because it uses AHA and BHA acids, the salon does not recommend it during pregnancy. Afterwards, daily sunscreen is a must and sunbathing should be avoided.
My Six-Month Skin Goals
A single session is a good start, but skin changes with consistency. My goals cover the full list: hydration, congestion, pigmentation and fine lines. Here is the baseline plan I'm working from:
Month 1: Set the baseline. Do the first session, note your skin type and top concerns, and agree a plan with your skin advisor. Start or tighten a daily routine of gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF.
Months 2 to 3: Build the habit. Repeat the treatment on a regular schedule and add boosters aimed at specific concerns, such as Britenol for dark spots or Dermabuilder Booster for fine lines. Skin Retreat recommends treatments about every three weeks because of the acids used, and suggests monthly for cleansing, dehydration and oily skin. Many other providers suggest every four to six weeks, so follow your advisor's guidance.
Months 4 to 6: Maintain and review. Aim for steadier hydration, clearer pores and a more even tone, then reassess with photos taken in the same lighting as your baseline. Stay consistent with sunscreen, which protects every result you've worked for.
The Verdict
Hydrating, comfortable and easy to recommend. I'll be honest: I'm quite lazy with my skincare, which is exactly why this works for me. As a monthly dose of proper care, it does the heavy lifting I don't manage on my own.
The case for the IG Famous HydraFacial is simple: it's a no-downtime facial that cleanses, exfoliates, hydrates and relaxes in one sitting, with boosters to tailor it. For first-timers, Skin Retreat's trial session is priced at HK$680 and includes cleansing, a mask and a shoulder and neck massage; it's reserved for first-time customers aged 18 and over.
