HONG KONG
I'd heard genuinely amazing things about Zeva Hair Spa for a while before I finally booked in this summer. Zeva has been operating since 2017 and positions itself as Hong Kong's foremost destination for holistic hair and scalp wellness. What sets Zeva apart on paper is trichology: the clinical study of the hair and scalp, as opposed to purely cosmetic hairdressing. Its team is built around IAT-certified trichologists, a credential that specifically trains practitioners to diagnose scalp conditions — inflammation, product buildup, follicle health, early-stage thinning — rather than just style or wash hair. The brand also draws on more than 30 different technologies across its treatment menu, and runs a structured "Scalp Longevity Programme" that starts with assessment first, treatment second. Beyond its Causeway Bay flagship, Zeva also operates inside Yun Wellness at Island Shangri-La in Admiralty, and has expanded internationally to Upper House Chengdu. After a consultation, I got booked into the Oxyjet Hair Spa at Zeva's Causeway Bay flagship.

The Experience
I was shown into a private treatment room, and it was genuinely one of the more beautiful spaces I've been treated in — calm, uncluttered, low lighting, and clearly designed to make a scalp consultation feel like a considered clinical assessment rather than a quick salon add-on.
Every appointment at Zeva starts with a one-on-one professional scalp assessment, and mine turned out to be more revealing — and more useful — than I expected. Using a magnified scalp-imaging tool, my therapist was able to show me, in real time and at a scale I'd never seen my own scalp at, that a significant amount of product buildup was trapped at my hair roots. It wasn't just surface flaking; it was residue from a shampoo that clearly wasn't suited to my scalp type, sitting directly at the follicle opening.
That matters more than it might sound. Follicles that are partially blocked by residue don't just look unclean — buildup at the root can trap oil, dead skin, and inflammatory triggers close to the scalp surface, which tends to make conditions like dandruff harder to resolve no matter how often you wash, because the wash itself isn't reaching the actual problem.
Once the assessment was done, the plan came together with a clear internal logic — each step seemed to set up the next rather than being a loose sequence of separate add-ons.

Saline first. The treatment opened with an application of a 0.9% saline (sodium chloride) solution across the scalp. Saline at this concentration is isotonic — meaning it matches the body's own natural salt balance — which is precisely why it's used as a gentle first step on compromised or inflamed skin rather than anything more astringent. It doesn't sting or dehydrate the way a stronger active ingredient might; it simply calms and preps already-irritated skin before anything more intensive is introduced. On sunburnt skin specifically, starting here rather than with a stronger active felt like the right call.

Deep cleanse and massage. From there came the core of the Oxyjet treatment: a deep cleansing hair wash paired with a scalp massage, delivered using the jet peel machine the treatment is named for. Jet peel technology works by delivering a fine, pressurised mist that lifts debris and buildup from the skin's surface without the abrasive friction of manual exfoliation — a meaningfully gentler approach for a scalp that's already sunburnt and sensitive, where scrubbing would likely have made things worse rather than better. Paired with the massage technique, it was also the most physically relaxing part of the appointment; scalp massage is known to support blood flow to the follicles, and it showed in just how much tension I hadn't realised I was carrying until it started easing out.
Essence. This was the standout moment of the whole treatment. It had a genuine cooling effect on contact — soothing rather than stinging, even against skin that was still tender from sunburn. Cooling formulations like this typically work by calming surface inflammation and reducing the itch-scratch cycle that tends to make dandruff and flaking worse over time, since scratching an already-irritated scalp only compounds the barrier damage.
The blowdry. The appointment closed with a proper blowdry — a small detail, but one that changed how the whole visit felt. Rather than leaving with a damp head and a vague sense of having been "treated," I left with hair that was fully finished, which made the whole 75 minutes feel complete rather than clinical.

The Result
Between clearing the trapped product buildup at the root and the anti-dandruff essence doing its calming work, my scalp felt genuinely different by the time I left — less irritated and noticeably more comfortable than it had been walking in. What made it feel like a real fix rather than a temporary soothe was the sequencing: prep with saline, deep clean at the follicle level, then treat the surface inflammation directly, each step addressing a different part of what sunburn and bad product buildup had actually done to my scalp.
