What to Know About Richard Gere's Son, Homer Gere, Who's In Hulu's The Shards & HBO's Euphoria

Homer Gere has spent most of his life out of the spotlight by design — but 2026 has turned into the year that changes, with two major television roles landing back to back and a surname that's impossible to separate from Hollywood history.

Who Is Homer Gere?

Homer James Jigme Gere was born on February 6, 2000, in New York City, the son of actor Richard Gere and actress Carey Lowell, best known for her role as Pam Bouvier in the 1989 James Bond film Licence to Kill and as ADA Jamie Ross in the Law & Order franchise. His name carries family history on both sides: "Homer" after his paternal grandfather, "James" after his maternal grandfather, and "Jigme" — meaning "fearless" in Tibetan — a nod to his father's long-standing connection to Buddhism. He has an older half-sister, actress Hannah Dunne, through Lowell's earlier marriage to director Griffin Dunne.

Gere and Lowell were married in November 2002 and separated in 2013 after 11 years together. Richard Gere later married publicist Alejandra Silva in 2018, with whom he shares two younger sons. Notably, before his marriage to Lowell, Richard Gere was also married to American supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995 — making his current co-star Kaia Gerber, Crawford's daughter, connected to the Gere family in an unusual, roundabout way.

Homer graduated from Brown University in 2024 before moving into acting.

His Breakout Year

Gere's first major acting role came in 2026, playing Dylan Reid — a famous actor client managed by Alexa Demie's character — in the third season of HBO's Euphoria. He's described the role as "an actor playing an actor playing a character," and has said he remains close with his father, still speaking with him daily despite Richard Gere's famously private approach to his children's lives.

Shortly after, Gere landed a key role in The Shards, Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis's FX thriller series, playing the enigmatic new student Robert Mallory. The role puts him in direct scenes with Kaia Gerber, given the pair's family connection through Richard Gere's past marriage to Cindy Crawford — a detail outlets have been quick to point out as one of the more unusual bits of Hollywood trivia surrounding the show's casting.

A Deliberately Private Upbringing

Richard Gere has long kept his children largely out of public view, and Homer's rise into acting marks a noticeable shift after years of minimal public exposure. Richard has spoken warmly but sparingly about fatherhood over the years, and has noted that his son doesn't watch much of his work, given how strange it is to see a parent playing an "extreme character" on screen.

What's Next

With Euphoria and The Shards both under his belt in the same year, Homer Gere looks to be moving from famous-family footnote to a genuine name in his own right — one built, so far, on his own choices rather than his father's legacy.
