With the ongoing demand for staycations in lieu of overseas travel, Hong Kong hotels continue to push through with new and enticing offers. A recent opening which slung low on the radar for most yet has been successful since its debut, The Figo Hotel is a petite abode for boutique hotel seekers. We visited the chic hotel for a one-night stay—and did we mention that it’s super dog friendly?

A dog-friendly staycation in the heart of the city
Situated between Hong Kong’s very own self-proclaimed hipster neighbourhoods Sai Ying Pun and Sheung Wan, the Figo Hotel is set amongst some of Hong Kong’s busiest streets. This cosy little hotel welcomes business and leisure travellers, as well as local dog owners looking for a homey, affordable getaway with their furry friend.

The hotel features a large lounge and check-in area on the fourth floor. Coffee, soft drinks and beers are all complimentary for guests and the floor is decorated with board games and to keep you and your friends occupied. There are two large outdoor sitting areas, one of which, features a doggie pool for your pooch to take a splash (humans also welcome).

The room
We stayed in the Premium Suite, a 27-metre-square room with all the basics in a sophisticated, modern setting. The room was well furnished and draws its inspiration from Mediterranean themes and colours. Amenities and services included a coffee machine, free wifi, a large TV with access to Netflix and access to the in-room bar. When booking the dog staycation, guests can expect a welcome pack comprising treats, a doggie dish and a large hamper including some treats from the hotel store.

Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. We recommend you ask for their advice if you find yourself looking to dine, walk or shop somewhere dog-friendly. We were provided with a printed off sheet with plenty of options within walking distance.

Although facilities and the space are basic, the hotel provides all the necessities. There’s a gym, fully-equipped multi-purpose space and a casual lounge area. The Figo Hotel is an excellent option for pet owners looking for a getaway in the city, while being within close proximity of the hotel. The rooms are clean, well furnished and dog friendly. Filling the niche of affordable dog-friendly hotels in the market, the boutique is a unique addition to Hong Kong’s evergrowing portfolio—and there’s even another one set to open soon from the Yulan Group establishment.
