The Royal Garden Kowloon East Officially Opens in Tseung Kwan O as a Pet-Friendly "Urban Resort"

Sun Hung Kai Properties' repositioned hotel, formerly Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East, held its grand opening on October 13.

The Royal Garden Kowloon East has officially opened its doors in Tseung Kwan O, completing a hotel repositioning that Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) describes as one of the most significant the district has seen in recent years. The property, previously Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East, was renamed on January 1 and finished a full renovation in September. SHKP held the grand opening ceremony on October 13.

The hotel has shifted its focus from corporate travellers to staycationers, families, pet owners, wedding couples and wellness and medical visitors, SHKP says. Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok said the group introduced an "Urban Resort" concept after studying what local families and visitors want.

The 366 rooms and suites start at 36 square metres for the entry-level Urban Oasis Room. At the top end, seven Horizon Retreat Villas come with private outdoor gardens and are pet-friendly. New room types include children's themed rooms, a Family Fortress Room with bunk beds for up to four guests, and a Sunset Terrace Suite with a large terrace. The former food and beverage areas on the first and second floors have been converted into retail space.

In the lobby, Fine Foods Lounge brings recipes from The Royal Garden Cake Shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, including its palmiers, to the east side of Kowloon. Rooftop Italian restaurant Ponentino reimagines Sabatini Ristorante Italiano, the signature restaurant at The Royal Garden Tsim Sha Tsui, with a garden-style terrace overlooking the Cross Bay Link. A kids' zone called Giggle Hill and The Garden Lounge round out the offering.

For weddings and events, the upgraded Diamond Rooms on Level 2 host banquets and meetings. Diamond Room 8 opens onto an outdoor garden extension, and with the Tseung Kwan O Marriage Registry on Po Yap Road minutes away, couples can hold a ceremony in the garden and a reception indoors.

Getting There

The hotel is connected by sheltered indoor access to MTR Tseung Kwan O Station, with a major bus terminus next door and the Central Kowloon Route alongside. Kai Tak Sports Park is about 15 minutes away by car. Cross-boundary coaches to the Mainland depart from the doorstep, and complimentary shuttles run to West Kowloon Station and Airport Express Kowloon Station.

Linked to SHKP's Neighbouring Malls

SHKP is treating the hotel as part of a wider Tseung Kwan O retail network. A grand-opening room package offers shopping and dining rewards redeemable across Park Central, East Point City, PopWalk, apm, The Angle and PopCorn, an expansion of a summer pilot with Park Central. Festive campaigns for Halloween and Christmas are in the pipeline.
