The Langham Gold Coast – Hotel Review

GOLD COAST

I’m walking into The Langham on the Gold Coast for the first time on a Saturday afternoon, and I can’t quite work out why I’m instantly moving a few paces slower than the usual weekday hustle. Maybe it's the botanic-infused air-conditioning? Or the elaborate architecture combined with sky-high ceilings that make any guest pause in awe.

Halfway between the iconic Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach precinct are three jewel-like structures, soaring above the city’s long-stretched beaches. Part residential and part hotel–The Langham, Gold Coast is the first new beachfront luxury hotel to enter the area in more than 30 years.

When presented with 169 hotel rooms and nine room types, chances are you end up with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean or Hinterland. The Deluxe Ocean View Room – so close to the ocean one might feel on a luxury yacht when gazing out of a morning – is packed with the perfect blend of coastal and ultra-modern interiors, including a soundscape of crashing waves. And if you want to set foot on the sand, a simple daunt to the pool deck and out the gate will take you there. Splash about in the confines of your own space too, with the two-person bathtub occupying a generous size of the bathroom, with a selection of signature Diptyque toiletries to make you squeaky clean.

Time in your room is time well spent — with a Bluetooth speaker, Nespresso coffee machine and 50-inch Samsung with Streamvision casting – to name a few. The building’s sleek and geometric exterior is supported by closed-in balconies –one that you have private access to right from your doorstep. Relax on the sunbed with your choice of enclosed (for when the ocean breeze isn’t so gentle) partially closed or fully open.

An extra sweet afternoon...

If you’re a notorious snacker, The Langham Gold Coast’s afternoon tea at Palm Court is in a league of its own. From the top plate to the pink fluffy scones beneath, the finest selection of sweet and savoury treats feel magical upon each bite –not to mention some perfectly paired bubbles to accompany them. Right on theme for Mother’s Day, the (pink) triple brie sandwiches were sublime. Bespoke floral arrangements are stationed throughout that feel like a warm hug. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and they won’t let any detail go unnoticed. Exceptional to say the least, and a smart option if a dinner reservation is on the way.

A tantalising feast at T'ANG COURT

A fine-dining affair heroing Cantonese cuisine where natural flavours take the lead in the Chef’s Classic Set Menu. Truly a refreshing private dinner experience; tables are separated at a reasonable distance – some tucked away into little nooks – ensuring you and your fellow diners can surrender to the culinary experience in a secluded setting.

We started with a complimentary appetiser and warm towel – to preserve the freshness – and ended with Chilled mango sago cream topped with grapefruit, which was utterly divine. Before booking, check out the other set menus on offer – each offering different meats and wine pairings and can be tailored to how you wish to indulge in Cantonese gastronomy.

Rinse, Repeat

A rarity – The Langham, Gold Coast is one of those sacred places you don’t need to leave to begin exploring. While the city offers retail therapy, day trips to the hinterland or thrilling theme parks, the vast hotel grounds will lead you to corners like the Chuan Spa where you’ll be privy to the highest standards of holistic wellness. No need to leave your room either – Chuan Spa can be brought to you with in-room amenities and service for that extra personalised touch. A state-of-the-art health club overlooks glistening shores and is fit for all your yoga, pilates and meditation needs. And finally – I may be biased to comment – on the heated magnesium pool; yes, heated with magnesium.

Top-tier luxury and impeccable hospitality are at the heart of this gem on the Gold Coast. With intentions to disrupt the norm of beachside accommodation, guests can truly have it all; the location, the gastronomy, and the utmost simple pleasures. Ostentatious in its own right, The Langham Gold Coast brings a welcome freshness to a rising city. When you’ve touched down, keep an eye out for its jewel stature flaunting its lights atop the world beneath. Step inside and The Langham Gold Coast is all yours – enjoy.
