I Spent Two Months Living at WM Hotel, Sai Kung, with My Dogs – It Might Just Be the Most Pet-Friendly Hotel in Hong Kong

HONG KONG
Set against the mountains of Sai Kung with uninterrupted views of the sea, WM Hotel feels worlds away from the city — yet close enough to still feel connected. Over the course of eight weeks, I stayed in both a room and a suite with terrace access, used the facilities daily, and established a routine. What emerged wasn’t a weekend getaway experience, but something rarer in Hong Kong: a genuinely liveable, pet-positive retreat.

Location: Sai Kung at its Most Cinematic
Sai Kung has long been dubbed “Hong Kong’s back garden”, but WM Hotel’s position elevates that reputation. The hotel sits between mountain ridges, open sea, and a quiet stretch of coastline, creating a sense of space that’s hard to come by elsewhere in the city.

Mornings here are calm and light-filled. Evenings bring soft coastal breezes and sunsets that wash the entire property in gold. From many vantage points — particularly the pool and upper floors — you can see mountains, beach, and sea all at once, a trifecta view that feels almost un-Hong Kong in the best possible way. For dog owners, the surrounding area is a dream: open paths, quiet roads, and easy access to nature without the constant stress of traffic or crowds.

Rooms & Suites: Designed for Real Living
Over the two months, I experienced both a standard room and a suite with terrace access, and each served a different purpose at different stages of the stay.
The rooms are thoughtfully laid out, with a clean, modern aesthetic and — crucially — terraces in the majority of categories. That outdoor space makes all the difference, especially when travelling with pets. Being able to open the doors, let fresh air in, and give the dogs a spot to lie in the sun instantly changed the rhythm of daily life.

The suite terrace, however, is where WM Hotel truly shines for long stays. The additional space allows you to settle in rather than live out of a suitcase. The terrace became an extension of the room — morning coffee spot, dog-watching post, evening wind-down zone — and made the suite feel less like accommodation and more like a temporary home. Everything felt designed with longevity in mind: generous storage, good light, practical layouts, and materials that can actually withstand daily use (and dogs).

The Pool: Arguably the Best in Hong Kong
If there’s one facility that defines WM Hotel, it’s the rooftop infinity pool.
Calling it “one of the best pools in Hong Kong” almost undersells it. From the water, you’re looking out over mountains on one side, sea on the other, and open sky above. It’s rare to find a pool that feels this immersive, rather than decorative.
Even after weeks of use, it never lost its impact. Early morning swims were quiet and meditative; late afternoon dips felt cinematic. It’s the kind of pool that reminds you why you chose to stay here in the first place.

Gym & Wellness: 24-Hour Access That Actually Matters
For longer stays, facilities stop being perks and start being necessities. WM Hotel’s 24-hour gym access made maintaining a routine genuinely easy — no scheduling stress, no peak-hour battles.
The gym is well-equipped, clean, and bright, with enough space to feel comfortable even when a few guests are around. Paired with the sauna and steam room, it becomes a proper wellness offering rather than a box-ticking exercise. Living here, it was easy to slip into a rhythm: morning walk with the dogs, workout, swim, work, repeat.

Shopping & Dining: Casual, Convenient, and Varied
WM Hotel offers enough on-site options to make daily life easy. There’s Café@WM for all-day dining, Bakso for Indonesian-inspired comfort food with a relaxed, Bali-style vibe, and M Square, a casual, family-friendly spot ideal for easy meals and social evenings. In-room dining is also available, which comes in handy during longer stays or lazy nights in.
Sai Kung town is just a 10-minute walk away, opening up seafood restaurants, cafés, and local favourites whenever you want variety.
One of the most underrated aspects of WM Hotel is its on-site shopping arcade. For long-stay guests — especially pet owners — this is invaluable. From convenience stores to beauty services and even a pet shop, it removes the friction of daily errands. You’re not constantly planning trips just to pick up basics; everything you need is right downstairs.

Service: Warm, Consistent, and Genuinely Dog-Loving
Plenty of hotels claim to be pet-friendly. Far fewer actually are. At WM Hotel, the staff didn’t just allow dogs — they welcomed them. From reception to housekeeping to security, the attitude was consistently warm and relaxed. My dogs were recognised, greeted, and treated as part of the stay rather than an inconvenience. That consistency matters over two months. It creates a sense of belonging rather than transience, and it’s what ultimately sets WM Hotel apart.

The Long-Stay Package: Designed for More Than a Weekend
WM Hotel’s long-stay packages make extended living financially and practically viable. With preferential rates, access to full facilities, and a layout that supports daily routines, the hotel feels intentionally suited to guests who want more than a short escape. For remote workers, creatives, pet owners, or anyone needing a reset without leaving Hong Kong, it’s a compelling alternative to traditional serviced apartments — with far better views.
Between the exceptional location, arguably Hong Kong’s best pool, 24-hour facilities, genuine pet friendliness, and a layout that supports long stays, WM Hotel offers something genuinely rare in the city: space — physical, mental, and emotional.
